Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

The Championships court with video review technology

The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay technology.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors will gain the ability to question particular decisions from the official, following the practice currently in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This development comes just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific situations, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

A recent case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
