Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player won his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after spring of the previous year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.
He defended four early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
